Aspen

Populus tremula

Height 15-25 m; bole up to 1 m diameter. Deciduous. Crown is cone- or column-shaped. Bark is green-grey, smooth. Leaves are round to oval, with sharp tip, toothed, upperside copper-coloured at first becoming blue-green, yellow in autumn, 1.5-8 cm long. Leaves rustle in the lightest wind.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Europe to Asia Minor and central Asia. Damp hillsides and woods.

What are its young like?

Male and female flowers on separate plants. Male are egg-shaped, green and brown; female are green.
