Black mulberry
Morus nigra
Height to 10 m, bole up to 50 cm diameter. Deciduous. Crown is a low dome. Bark is orange-brown, brighter in the fissures. Leaves are broad, egg-shaped, wider towards the base, pointed tip, dull green, ruogh, 8-12 x 6-8 cm.
What habitats does it normally live in?
Widely cultivated. Origin uncertain. Grown as a fruit tree and as an ornamental.
What are its young like?
Inconspicuous flowers in leaf axis appear in May. Fruit starts green, turning purple-black, 2-2.5 cm. Fruit is edible and good but usually used to flavour other fruit dishes.
