Ficus carica

Height 10-15 m; bole up to 60 cm diameter. Deciduous. Crown is low, broad and spreading. Bark has fine wrinckles, pale-grey. Leaves have three to five large rounded lobes and are dark green in colour, 30 x 35 cm.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Origins in western Asia, now widespread in Mediterranean. Widely grown for its delicious fruit.

What are its young like?

Flowers ae pear-shaped and tiny, largely hidden within shoot tips. Pollination is by insects. Fruit is green, maturing topurple, pear-shaped with many seeds enclosed within flesh, up to 5 cm.
