Large-leafed lime

Tilia platyphyllos

Height 20-40 m, bole up to 1 m diameter. Deciduous. Young trees have ascending branches and a narrow crown. Leaves are heart-shaped, hairy and toothed, 6-15 x 7-13 cm.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to Europe (including England) through to Asia Minor. Widely cultivated. Woodland. Also grown as ornamental tree.

What are its young like?

Flowers in mid-summer with whitish-yellow, five-petalled, fragrant, pendent flowers, which are attached to a wing-bract. Fruit is usually spherical, pendent, about 1cm.
