Lodgepole pine

Pinus contorta var. latfolia

Height 20-25 m, bole up to 1 m diameter. Evergreen. Crown is cone-shaped. Bark is scaly, brown. Leaves are blue-green tapered and usually twisted, 4-5 cm x 1-1.5 mm.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to North America, coastal, from south-east Alaska to California. Grown in Europe for forestry and as an ornamental.

What are its young like?

Flowers in late spring on current season's growth. Male cones yellow. Fruit takes two years to mature - brown egg-shaped cone, 5 x 2.5 cm.
