Juniper

Juniperus communis

Small conical tree with height up to 6 m, or a low-growing twisted shrub with spreading branches. Bark is a rich reddish-brown. Leaves are short spreading needles, spiky blue-green, borne in whorls of three.

What habitats does it normally live in?

A variety of soils, likes lime-rich. Scattered throughout Europe.

How does it reproduce or breed?

Male and female flowers grow on separate plants. Male flowers are yellow, females green. Berries are green in first year, and ripen to dark purple in second.
