Lawson cypress

Chamaecyparis lawsonniana

Height 20-40 m; bole up to 1.2 m diameter. Evergreen. Bark at first is cinnamon-red, turning rich dark brown. Leading shoot is drooping and small leaves are 3-8 mm.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to North America. Ridges and valley slopes in the wild. Tolerates a variety of soils. Widespread ornamental.

What are its young like?

Female flowers grow on ends of small branchlets. Male flowers grow on ends of branches and have black scales. Cones are spherical up to 8mm across.
