Cedar of Lebanon

Cedrus libania

Height 20-40 m; bole 1-2 m diameter. Evergreen, coniferous. Tree is broadly rounded with flat top. massive branches grow horizontally. Bark is smooth, brown or dark grey at first, darkening with age and becoming cracked. Leaves are dark green needles, 1-3 cm long.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to Lebanon, Syria and southern Anatolia. Mountain slopes. Now wisespread ornamental.

What are its young like?

Male flowers release yellow pollen in autumn. Female flowers are pale green. Cones 7-10 cm long and erect and barrel-shaped.
