Deodar cedar

Cedrus deodara

Height up to 40 m; bole up to 1.5 m diameter. Evergreen, coniferous. Distinguished from other cedars by conical shape, drooping branches and longer leaves. Bark is dark grey-brown. Needles are soft, 3.5-4.5.cm x 1-1.15 mm.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to Himalayas. Widely planted as ornamental tree. Dry mountainous areas.

What are its young like?

Male flowers are erect, releasing yellow pollen in autumn. Female flowers are green and ripe cones 8-13 cm are dark brown.
