Atlas cedar

Cedrus atlantica

Height 20-35 m; bole to 1.5 m diameter. Evergreen, coniferous. Crown broadly conical first, becoming wider with age. Bark is dark grey. Branches ascending. Leaves are needle-shaped, blue-green or dark green, growing singly on current year's shoot 1.5-2 cm.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to Atlas mountains. Now widespread as an ornamental on a variety of free-draining soils.

What are its young like?

Male flowers pinkish; female flowers green. Male and female cones in autumn.
