Hemp agrimony

Eupatorium cannabinum

Up to 1.75 m tall. A distinctive and upright, downy perennial. Stems are often reddish. Leaves are divided into three or five lobes and are borne in opposite pairs up the stems. Flowers are dull pink and small; grouped in dense clusters 2-5 mm across, which are borne in loose terminal inflorescences. Seeds are wind-dispersed, aided by feathery white hairs.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Typically favours damp ground such as fens and marshes; occasionally in drier situations.

What's its life cycle or behaviour pattern?

Flowers July-September

What is its current UK distribution?

Widespread in suitable habitats across most of Europe except the far north.
