Brooklime

Veronica beccabunga

Up to 30 cm tall. A hairless perennial with creeping and rooting stems, which become upright. Leaves are oval and fleshy, and borne on short stalks. Flowers are 7-8 mm across and blue with a white centre; borne in pairs arising from leaf axils.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Restricted to shallow water and damp soil beside rivers and ponds.

What's its life cycle or behaviour pattern?

May-September

What is its current UK distribution?

Widespread in suitable habitats across Europe except far north and drier Mediterranean regions.
