Heartsease or Wild pansy

Viola tricolour

Up to 40 cm tall. A branching hairless or downy-hairy annual, biennial or perennial. Lower leaves are ovate while upper ones are oblong; the stipules are deeply divided. Flowers are 10-15 mm across; petals are unequal and yellow, violet or bicoloured; lower one bears a spur, 6 mm long. Sepals are longer than petals.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Favours cultivated ground and grassland.
