Click beetle
Athous haemorrhoidalis
7-10 mm long. A long, black or dark brown thorax and a brown, ridged back. Larva is brown, with a thin, segmented body.
What habitats does it normally live in?
Grassland, including parks and gardens, across Europe, except for northern Scandinavia.
What does it feed upon?
Flies May to July. Adults chew grasses and flowers, especially stamens with pollen. Larvae cause severe damage to roots. Click beetles are so-called because they can flip themselves into the air when under attack or threat.
