The Urban Greenspace Project 2004 - 2007
‘Urban Greenspace: a place for people and wildlife’ was a Wildlife Trust project funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government Special Grants Programme and the Big Lottery Fund. We supported Wildlife Trusts across the English regions who were working with communities involved in their local urban greenspaces.
The Project researched best practice within and outside the Trusts, trialed new ideas and shared the lessons learnt. We also offered guidance to, and provided training for, staff and community groups working with the Trust projects that had joined the Urban Greenspace Programme.
The Trust projects we worked with were based in a variety of locations from Cambridge to Stockton-on-Tees and covered a whole range of activities. These activities included wildlife gardening, greening the streets, recycling, environmental education, community training, wildflower seed collection, and food growing and allotments. More details can be found on the urban projects page (click here).
