Event details

8 December 2017 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Join the South Birmingham Group for a fascinating wildlife talk about everyone's favourite UK wild mammals and make a hedgehog home to encourage them to visit and hibernate.

We're delighted to be joined by Samantha Mason  who is currently studying for a PhD at Durham University in monitoring of UK mammals with a citizen science approach.

She recently completed a study for her masters degree on otter populations in the Birmingham canal system. Managing a team of over 50 volunteers, almost 200km of canal were surveyed and the results were analysed to look for potential barriers to dispersal through the heavily urban environment.

Following the success of the study, Sammy recently set up the Birmingham and Black Country Mammal Group which aims to increase the number of mammal records in the area which are currently severely lacking.
