Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s live well with nature programme is a new initiative for people in Telford & Wrekin Borough and based on growing evidence that contact with nature impacts positively on improving people’s health and wellbeing.

live well with nature has formed based on growing evidence that accessing nature has multiple health benefits.

A partnership between Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Telford & Wrekin Council it offers Telford’s communities outdoor activities through free 12-week programmes to help improve their health and wellbeing or via one day taster sessions using Telford & Wrekin’s and Shropshire’s many nature reserves and green spaces.

In return nature benefits from receiving the care and attention required to ensure its long-term future.

live well with nature programmes are free for those living and/or working in the Telford and Wrekin area aged 18+ and looking to maintain or improve their physical and mental health & wellbeing.

No practical experience is required prior to attending.

Activities are varied and may include some of the following:

Practical conservation activities

Hedge-laying
Coppicing woodlands
Pond maintenance
Habitat creation

Traditional crafts
As long as you can make it outdoors you can make anything!

Spoon-whittling
Seat-making
Basket weaving.
Rights of way
Participants get involved in footpath maintenance across Telford’s rights of ways.

Live well nature walks
We’ll take out into the great outdoors to experience the sights and sounds of Telford and Shropshire.

Nature reserves
We’ll involve you in conservation projects at various locations in nature reserves with structured woodland &habitat management plans.

Surveys

Surveys might be conducted to see what birds, plants, flowers, trees, butterflies and bugs live at different sites.

Community groups

Across Telford you might become involved in creating gardens at local schools or sheltered housing, or carrying out practical activities in gardens, orchards, meadows or woodlands.
