Our Bright Future free Course for Young People + Plant Sale - Tewkesbury

Event details

4 July 2017 - 2:00pm - 4:30pm

Earn an AQA accreditation in Habitat Management and Community Engagement

The Our Bright Future course is an ongoing programme that seeks to give 16-24 year olds valuable skills in creating and managing green spaces for the benefit of local wildlife. Activities include, but are not limited to, building bird and bat boxes, making raised flower beds, wildlife gardening and general grounds maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn transferable skills, as well as to gain an AQA Accreditation in Habitat Management and Community Engagement upon completion of 8-12 sessions. A working reference can also be provided to those participants who complete the course.

All sessions are ongoing with no specific start or end date and take place at our Training Garden in Priors Park, Tewksbury, from 14.00-16.30, with the possibilty of away days to work on one of the local wildlife reserves. Free to come along to a taster session and see if this course is right for you.

Over the last few weeks the group has been busy converting an old chicken hutch into a miniature house, complete with a wildlife garden, a pond made from a bathroom sink and a rain harvesting system using downpipes and gutters. We have even managed to install its own green roof!

During these sessions we will also be having a weekly Plant Sale, selling a range of different species grown by participants of the course! As well as this we have a number of solitary bee homes and bird feeders made by our volunteers for sale. So come on down and grab yourself a bargain!

Please contact Duncan Murdoch prior to attending a session, or to ask any further questions about the course, via the email duncan.murdoch@gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk or via the telephone number 07464486826.

The course is part of the Big Lottery Fund's national "Our Bright Future" programme, which aims to empower young people to lead on progressive change in their communities and local environments.
