National Wildlife Week (double bill)
Saturday 29 May to Sunday 13 June 2010

The Wildlife Trusts offer everyone the chance to get involved during Wildlife Week (double bill), an annual programme of events to celebrate the diversity of the UK’s natural heritage and to raise awareness of conservation issues.

It’s a chance for everyone to engage with wildlife by taking part in a local Wildlife Trust events and activities to interest all the family, such as owl encounters, badger, butterfly and bird walks, rockpool rambles, nature art workshops, talks about moths, bats and other creatures of the night or perhaps a visit to a working wildlife-friendly farm.

Wildlife Week (double bill) is also a chance to discover first-hand The Wildlife Trusts’ valuable conservation work, such as projects to conserve otters and water voles, red squirrel havens or the campaign to save dolphins and basking sharks.  The Wildlife Trusts also play a crucial role in conserving and restoring rare habitats such as lowland raised bogs, chalk rivers, limestone pavements, woodlands, estuaries and salt marshes.

Stephanie Hilborne, chief executive of The Wildlife Trusts, said:

People are realising there’s a wealth of wildlife on their doorstep and, with the help of their local Wildlife Trust, they can find out more about how to help improve their neighbourhood environment and protect the UK’s wildlife.

"People are fascinated by wildlife, as demonstrated by the incredible popularity of programmes like Springwatch. Wildlife Week (double bill) provides an ideal opportunity for everyone who feels inspired by Springwatch to get out – and involved with nature - on their own patch.”

A selection of events taking part across the UK are listed below. For more information and more events contact your local Wildlife Trust.
